Network Connection
The Arkeia Appliance needs to be configured for the network, either statically or by a DHCP server with:
- IP Address Configuration
- IP (v4) Address
- Subnet Mask
- Broadcast Address
- Gateway
- Machine Name (optional, if set in the DHCP server)
- DNS (optional, if obtained from the DHCP server)
- List of Hosts
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Not setting the Gateway could result in a (Error 113: Not Route to host) when trying to connect to client machines.
DHCP Network Connection
Arkeia highly recommends using a static IP address assignment for all backup appliances.
If your network uses a DHCP server, start the Virtual Appliance and open the console window. The Virtual Appliance will wait for one minute to receive a DHCP response. Once it has received an IP address it will display it on screen once the system has finished booting. If no DHCP response is received it will revert to the default IP address of 10.10.10.10.
Obtain the IP
Obtain the IP of the Virtual Appliance by clicking on the summary tab of the AVA.
Alternatively, you can obtain the IP of the Virtual Appliance by clicking on the console tab of the AVA.
Click on Console
Locate the IP
Static IP Address Connection
If a DHCP server is not used, a static IP address can be given to the Virtual Appliance before it is connected to the network. The web interface can be accessed by connecting to https://10.10.10.10 in your local browser after a temporary route has been created.
Create Temporary Route to 10.10.10.10
In the case that a DHCP server is not used, you will need to create a route to 10.10.10.10 to be able to access the web interface. Add the route to a Virtual machine that is connected to the same Virtual switch where the Virtual Appliance is connected.
If this Virtual machine is running Windows, with an IP 192.168.0.1, the following command will create the route:
MS Windows Command Add Route: route add 10.10.10.10 mask 255.255.255.255 192.168.0.1 Remove Route: route delete 10.10.10.10
Linux Command Add Route: route add 10.10.10.10 dev eth0 Remove Route: route del 10.10.10.10
First Login / Password Defaults

SNMPwalk Test
Below are a few examples of a remote SNMP Monitoring server querying the Arkeia Appliance.
"snmp-utils" is not installed on the Arkeia Appliance so these commands must be executed from a separate server.
The command takes a single OID, and will display a list of all the results which lie within the subtree rooted on this OID:
# /usr/bin/snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 192.168.1.6 system SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: Linux edgefort000C29CD56DA 2.6.25.20-ef1 #1 SMP Tue Dec 23 18:03:12 CET 2008 i686 SNMPv2-MIB::sysObjectID.0 = OID: NET-SNMP-MIB::netSnmpAgentOIDs.10 DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (246997) 0:41:09.97 SNMPv2-MIB::sysContact.0 = STRING: root SNMPv2-MIB::sysName.0 = STRING: edgefort000C29CD56DA SNMPv2-MIB::sysLocation.0 = STRING: Unknown SNMPv2-MIB::sysORLastChange.0 = Timeticks: (19) 0:00:00.19 SNMPv2-MIB::sysORID.1 = OID: IF-MIB::ifMIB SNMPv2-MIB::sysORID.2 = OID: SNMPv2-MIB::snmpMIB SNMPv2-MIB::sysORID.3 = OID: TCP-MIB::tcpMIB SNMPv2-MIB::sysORID.4 = OID: IP-MIB::ip SNMPv2-MIB::sysORID.5 = OID: UDP-MIB::udpMIB SNMPv2-MIB::sysORID.6 = OID: SNMP-VIEW-BASED-ACM-MIB::vacmBasicGroup SNMPv2-MIB::sysORID.7 = OID: SNMP-FRAMEWORK-MIB::snmpFrameworkMIBCompliance SNMPv2-MIB::sysORID.8 = OID: SNMP-MPD-MIB::snmpMPDCompliance SNMPv2-MIB::sysORID.9 = OID: SNMP-USER-BASED-SM-MIB::usmMIBCompliance SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.1 = STRING: The MIB module to describe generic objects for network interface sub-layers SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.2 = STRING: The MIB module for SNMPv2 entities SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.3 = STRING: The MIB module for managing TCP implementations SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.4 = STRING: The MIB module for managing IP and ICMP implementations SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.5 = STRING: The MIB module for managing UDP implementations SNMPv2-MIB::sysORDescr.6 = STRING: View-based Access Control Model for SNMP. The following command shows the file system mount point.
snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 192.168.1.6 hrFSMountPoint.5 HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrFSMountPoint.5 = STRING: "/vol0"
It is also possible to start the walk at a higher level, retrieving more than one group of information.
This command will retrieve all the information known to an agent. The output is omitted for obvious reasons)
# snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 192.168.1.6 .iso
